Dear Future RHPD Officer,

Thank you for expressing interest in employment opportunities with the Rock Hill Police Department (RHPD). The first step toward joining our department is to complete the application and personal history statement enclosed in this packet. Once you have fully filled out these forms, please submit them to the Professional Standards Unit for review and evaluation. The position of Police Officer I offers a starting salary of $50,000, and at the Rock Hill Police Department, we also have a Career Ladder Program. This program allows officers to advance in rank and pay upon fulfilling the requirements outlined in our General Orders. In addition to the highly competitive starting salary, we provide benefits such as a probation completion pay increase, the Career Ladder program, a take-home car program, educational benefits, and a comprehensive insurance and retirement savings plan. Before You Begin
For all positions in the Police Department, you may be ineligible for hire if:
- You have been convicted of the following crimes: criminal domestic violence or a related charge; a crime of moral turpitude (crimes that involve fraud, dishonest behavior, or a breach of one’s duty to society); a felony (or entered a plea of guilty or no contest a crime punishable by a sentence of more than one year).
- You are in default of a student loan (National Direct Student Loan, National Defense Student Loan, Guaranteed Federally Insured Student Loan, etc.).
- You have a history of termination for reasons other than reduction in force.
- You have a history of illegal drug use.
- The job we are considering you for requires driving a vehicle and you have a significant number of moving violations and/or traffic accidents on your driver’s history.
A detailed background investigation will be conducted on all applicants for positions with the Police Department. Additionally, Police Officer candidates will be administered a polygraph examination as part of our efforts to determine your eligibility for employment.
You do not need to bring these items to the interview. But, you will need to begin collecting the listed information:
- Driver’s License
- Birth Certificate
- Social Security Card
- GED or High School Diploma
- College Diploma
- College Transcripts (must be certified by school) Military Discharge Papers(DD-214)
- Certificates received from any Criminal Justice Academy or Law Enforcement Agency (and transcripts/course curricula if applicable)
- Certificates received relating to Telecommunications or Corrections training, etc.
- Police Officer and Correctional Officer candidates Certified Ten (10) Year Driver’s History from each state where you held a Driver’s License
After you are hired:
- Certified Police Officers are required to complete a combined twelve-week basic law enforcement course at Rock Hill Police Department and South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia, South Carolina. A valid South Carolina driver’s license is required once hired. Out of state lateral transfers will have a combined 3 week academy. Two weeks at Rock Hill Police Department and one week at The South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia, SC.
- Correctional Officers are required to complete a three-week jail training course at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia, South Carolina. This will be done during the candidate’s first year of hire.
- Telecommunications Operators are required to successfully complete NCIC and APCO E911 certification within the probationary period.

Eligibility
All finalists for the position of certified police officer with the City of Rock Hill must meet the South Carolina Minimum Requirements as set forth in Section 23-6-44 of the South Carolina Code of Laws as amended in 1976.
